The Contemporary Art Center of Málaga (CAC Málaga) is an initiative of the City Council of Málaga to promote and showcase the visual arts of the 20th and 21st centuries. It was inaugurated in February 2003.

It is the first art museum in Spain to receive the ISO 9001:2000 quality certification.

Where is the Contemporary Art Center of Málaga located? The building.

It is situated in the former Wholesale Market of Málaga, in a building declared a Cultural Heritage Site (BIC) with an area of approximately 6,000 m², of which over 2,000 m² are dedicated to exhibitions.

The building is divided into five distinct spaces, one for the permanent collection, three for temporary collections, and the last one as a multipurpose area for various activities such as film screenings, book presentations, workshops, and more.

The Collection of the Contemporary Art Center of Málaga

In the exhibition halls, you can find photographs, drawings, sculptures, paintings, and other objects from the most recent history of art.

The permanent collection consists of around 400 pieces by national and international artists such as Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Miquel Barceló, Rogelio López Cuenca, Pérez Villalta, Juan Muñoz, Fran Stella, Anthony Caro, and many more.

Throughout the years, the center has hosted numerous exhibitions by renowned artists such as Tony Cragg, Louise Bourgeois, Gerhard Richter, Anish Kapoor, Lawrence Weiner, Roni Horn, Luis Gordillo, Richard Deacon, Jerónimo Elespe, among many others. These artists are, for the most part, ranked among the top 100 in the world of contemporary art.

Activities at the Contemporary Art Center of Málaga

In addition to guided tours of the collection and conferences, the Contemporary Art Center of Málaga offers a series of workshops and activities throughout the year. These activities are specially designed for children and students.

There are also courses and seminars taught by artists for students of Fine Arts and Art History, as well as for teachers, delving into the artistic trends of the 20th and 21st centuries.

All these organized activities are free of charge.

By car: If you prefer to drive, please note that the center of Málaga may have narrow streets and limited parking. However, there are several public parking facilities near the Contemporary Art Center where you can leave your vehicle.

On foot: If you are in the center of Málaga, a convenient option is to walk to the Contemporary Art Center. Follow the signs towards the city center, and you will find the center on Calle Alemania.

Taxi: For a faster and more convenient option, you can take a taxi to the Contemporary Art Center. Taxis are available at various locations throughout the city and can take you directly to the center.
